Pride Weekend, Pop‑Ups, and the Beautiful Chaos Behind Episode 5

I’m still recovering from this weekend — and honestly, Pride has a special talent for draining every ounce of energy and filling you right back up at the same time. We showed up tired, left even more tired, and somehow had the best time doing it. My legs still feel like they’re negotiating their contract, my voice is somewhere out in the street where I left it, and my brain is running on fumes and iced coffee. But my heart? Completely full.

Pride hits you the moment you arrive. The streets were already alive — flags waving, music bouncing off buildings, people dancing like the sun wasn’t melting us all. Everywhere you looked, someone was laughing, hugging, celebrating, or just existing loudly and beautifully. Pride energy is its own weather system: joy, resistance, celebration, community, and chaos all swirling together.

And tucked inside all that joy were the vendors — the pop‑ups, the makers, the small businesses hustling under tents and tables. You could feel the creativity buzzing from booth to booth. Handmade jewelry catching the light, art prints stacked in rainbow rows, candles melting slightly in the heat, soaps wrapped in bright packaging, snacks, clothing, accessories — every maker showing up with their whole heart in their products.

As a maker myself, I always pay attention to the booths. The grit. The hustle. The way everyone is out there in the heat, talking to strangers, sharing their story, hoping their work connects with someone. You see the early‑morning setup exhaustion in their eyes, the “I’ve repeated this product description 400 times today” smile, and the pride they carry when someone stops, touches their work, and says, “This is beautiful.”

It’s a reminder that small business isn’t just business — it’s personal. It’s emotional. It’s exhausting. And it’s worth it.

And this year, Pride wasn’t just something I attended — it became part of the podcast.

Episode 4 was supposed to be one clean episode. But Pride had other plans. I found myself stopping to talk to people, asking them what Pride meant to them. And their answers weren’t just good — they were powerful. Emotional. Funny. Raw. Real. So Episode 4 turned into a two‑part series, because their voices deserved space. Their stories deserved time.
